Dan’s Night to Fight: An ALS Alberta Fundraiser
When Dan was diagnosed with ALS back in 2024, I knew that I wanted to support him and his family. He’s about my age, his kids are around my age, him and his wife are hopeful, take life by the horns kind of people who pour into their community AND he’s a fellow Oiler fan….and ALS is brutal and they don’t deserve it. No one does.
Through Dan and his family, it’s been eye opening to see just how much work needs to be done to research and fight ALS so when Dan started talking about his Night to Fight fundraiser and asked if I could come capture it all, it was a big, fat, easy “yes” on my part.
I don’t post a lot of my Calgary event photography work outside of weddings but I love, love, love doing them. I get to be a fly on the wall and observe all the laughter, hugs, tears and friendship on display.
And let me tell you, this event was FULL of all of that. It was community on display in the best way. Village Brewery hosted and absolutely outdid themselves. We packed the place out and spilled onto the patio. Upstairs was dedicated to a huge silent auction with tons of local small business representing. The donations were next level. Dan loves his ink so it was only fitting that Emily Tuff was there from Hollow Heart Atelier to hook up people with fresh artwork. They even had Christy and Fraser from the Jack morning radio show in Vancouver to emcee. It was a celebration of hope and making a difference…and a huge outpouring of support for Dan and his family. The ALS Society of Alberta was showcased well and a ton of money was raised. So, so good. Mission accomplished. Like a boss.
And we’re not done! Dan’s night to Fight, Vol 2. is coming up quickly. We’ll be partying again on April 25. Tickets are sold out but the silent auction looks to be incredible. If you want to donate or see how you can help, check out the website. The ALS Foundation is doing amazing work for family’s like Dan’s. Let’s keep it going.
